TROUT IN THE CLASSROOM IS A BIG SUCCESS

By John Davis

As I write this (2/26/2006), two schools have released their trout in Lake Temescal and two more are just about ready to release. I have heard from all the teachers that the program has been a big success with their student and all give Grizzly Peak Flyfishers a BIG THANK YOU for making this program possible! The teachers will keep their aquarium setups for use in the program next year.

I want to thanks teachers Lucy Bryndza – Albany MS, Jerry Clopp – Hercules Middle/High School, Debbie Armstrong – Kensington Elementary and Anne Donaker – John Muir Elementary Berkeley for their participation in the program.

Also thanks go to Dan Zimmerlin, Richard Orlando and Ivan Sturman for sponsoring individual teachers, keeping the aquariums in good working order and working with the teachers to teach the kids about watersheds, fish and fishing.

I hope the program can be expanded next year to include more schools. If you know a local teacher or school that might be interested in this program, contact me or Ethan Rotman at the Department of Fish and Game (415-892-0460).
