VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Alameda Creek Alliance will be working with various agencies to conduct restoration projects on Sinbad Creek in Sunol and Stonybrook Creek along Palomares Road in Niles Canyon, beginning in 2007. Both creeks are tributaries to Alameda Creek and viable steelhead spawning habitats.
In preparation for these projects, we need volunteers to assist in door-to-door outreach to residents along the two creeks to provide them with information about our steelhead restoration work, and to meet and identify landowners interested in allowing us to do small-scale restoration projects on their property.
ACA volunteers are needed to go door-to-door next month to give prepared packets of information to the residents. The first date is Saturday September 9th 2006, from 9 am to 2 pm. We will meet in the morning for a brief training, and then caravan to Stonybrook and Sinbad Creeks. There will be a second outreach on a later Saturday in September.
Please consider helping us on one or both dates. Please contact Diana Brumbaugh, ACA Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator, at alamedavolunteer@yahoo.com or by phone at (510) 794-4252.

Become an Alameda Creek StreamKeeper
Help the ACA keep an eye on Alameda Creek by “adopting” a section of a stream in the Alameda Creek watershed for the Alameda Creek Alliance’s StreamKeepers program.
StreamKeepers periodically walk their adopted stretch of creek with eyes open to any observable issues (pollution, poaching, dumping, etc.). In the future, there may be opportunities to become more active in the program, for example working with various agencies to collect stream data or monitoring for fish activity. We also can help organize a creek clean-up or two if your adopted stream reach is in need of one.
If you are interested in becoming a StreamKeeper, please contact Diana Brumbaugh, the ACA Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator, at alamedavolunteer@yahoo.com or by phone at (510) 794-4252.

Upcoming Salmon & Steelhead Event:
The 9th Annual Coho Confab will be held August 25-27 at Point Reyes National Seashore at the Clem Miller facility. The Confab is a hands-on symposium focused on exploring the restoration of our local watersheds and learning techniques to enhance the recovery of critically endangered salmon and steelhead and their habitats. This year's Coho Confab is cosponsored by Trees Foundation, Salmonid Restoration Federation, and SPAWN. See http://www.treesfoundation.org/cohoconfab/ for more information.
