2) Sunol meeting tonight with Supervisor Steele Alameda County Supervisor Gail Steele will host a community meeting tonight, Wednesday, August 24 in Sunol to talk with constituents and answer questions. The meeting is at 7 pm at the Sunol Glen School cafeteria.
3) East Bay Regional Park District stewardship seminar Please contact me if you are interested in attending a day-long seminar focused on resource and rangeland management within EBRPD lands, on Tuesday, September 27, from 9 am to 4:30 pm, in Oakland. There will be presentations on grasslands and grazing, amphibian and reptile distribution and status, stream and fisheries projects, weed management, rare plant surveys, bird nesting surveys, and future EBRPD resource management. Space is very limited, so let me know immediately if you are interested in attending.
4) Sunol Country Festival Volunteers are needed to help staff the ACA booth at the Sunol Country Festival on Saturday, October 1, from 10 am to 4 pm. Contact me if you can help table for 1-2 hours. Visit www.sunol.net/festival/index.html for more info about the festival.
5) Scoping Meetings for SFPUC Water System Improvement Program The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission will hold "scoping" meetings for public comment on their proposed Water System Improvement Program in October. The SFPUC is preparing a Program Environmental Impact Report on the proposed Water System Improvement Program, a $4.3 billion plan for seismically upgrading the water system's various components, and for expanding the system's capacity. Projects in the Alameda Creek watershed include enlarging Calaveras Reservoir, enlarging the Sunol water treatment plant, and building a rubber dam in Alameda Creek in the Sunol Valley. Scoping meetings are scheduled for: Fremont on Tuesday, October 11, 6–8 pm Fremont Main Library, Fukaya Room, 2400 Stevenson Blvd. in Fremont Palo Alto on Tuesday, October 18, 7–9 pm Palo Alto Arts Center, 1313 Newell Road in Palo Alto San Francisco on Wednesday, October 19, 7-9 pm Tenderloin Community School, 627 Turk Street at Van Ness in San Francisco
6) “Journey of the Salmon” - salmon awareness program for Alameda County schools The South Yuba River Citizens League will be bringing "Journey of the Salmon," their school assembly program on salmon, to Alameda County in 2006. SYRCL will have a demonstration presentation at Southgate Elementary school in Hayward, on Monday, September 12th at 9:15 am. Southgate Elementary is at 26601 Calaroga Avenue in Hayward. Show up by 9:10 at the latest to ensure you have a chance to find a seat before the students arrive. If you would like to attend, check in at the office when you arrive (school requirements). The assembly will be in the Multi-purpose Room. "Journey of the Salmon" teaches students about salmon and the broader concepts of life cycles, habitat and adaptations, with the help of an incredible 6-foot salmon costume, amazing slides, fun stories, and hilarious audience participation. 7) North Livermore development Help stop the proposed 2,450 unit Pardee development in North Livermore. The Friends of Livermore Committee needs help to defeat the November initiative to approve an extension of the urban growth boundary that would allow this development. There will be a campaign kickoff at Retzlaff Vineyards at 5 pm on September 9th. Pardee has already spent an unprecedented $1.2 million to convince voters to approve the ballot amendment. The quality of life in Livermore is at stake!
