Alameda Creek Alliance update Date: Saturday, February 25, 2006 09:09:39 [ To the Alameda Creek Alliance e-mail list:
Last Storm of the Season for Steelhead? The weather forecast is calling for rain Sunday through Tuesday, so there is a good possibility flow in lower Alameda Creek will be adequate to draw in steelhead next week. If you live near the creek, please keep an eye out for fish next week at the BART weir. If you see fish, check the ACA web page on “If You Spot Fish in the Creek”
Sunol Compost Dump Approved The final EIR and approval for the compost dump to be located in the Sunol Valley was issued on February 11th. You can read the EIR on the Stop Waste (ACWMA) website (http://www.stopwaste.org/home/index.asp?page=698 ). Stop the Dump in Sunol (http://www.stopthedumpinsunol.org/ ) asks that as many people as possible read this document and prepare for rebuttal, as the public has 60 days to respond. Please contact the ACWMA board of directors as well as the County Supervisors voicing your opposition to siting the dump in Sunol. For more info, go to the Stop the Dump in Sunol web page (http://www.stopthedumpinsunol.org/< /A> ) or the ACA web page ( www.alamedacreek.org click on “Action Alerts”)
ACA Membership Drive The Alameda Creek Alliance is growing in members and effectiveness – we now have over 750 members. We are trying to build our membership to reach more residents in the watershed and to ensure we can continue to be active in the future. If you have any neighbors or friends who are interested in Alameda Creek or support protection of the watershed, please send me their names, addresses and e-mails, or direct them to our web site (www.alamedacreek.org) to become a member. Also, if you are not a current ACA member, please go to our web site and download a membership form (http://www.alamedacreek.org/Join%20-%20Volunteer/Join%20-%20Volunteer.htm).
Help Protect Local Biodiversity You can help protect local endangered species and biological diversity by supporting the Center for Biological Diversity, one of the country’s most effective endangered species advocacy groups. The Center works to protect steelhead trout, coho salmon, California red-legged frog, Alameda whipsnake, California tiger salamander, golden eagle, and numerous other imperiled Bay Area species. Check out the Center’s work at http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/swcbd/ . You can become a Biodiversity Activist and sign up for e-mail alerts regarding Center advocacy campaigns – go to http://actionnetwork.org/BIODIVERSITY/home.html or send me your name, email address, and city and I will sign you up.
Kottinger Creek Restoration The next step in the Kottinger Creek Restoration Project is for the Pleasanton City Council to give the go-ahead to send the final plan out to bid. Your help with this is crucial, as a negative decision at this point will kill the project. This item is tentatively scheduled to go before the Pleasanton City Council on: Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at 7:00 PM Pleasanton City Council Chambers, 200 Old Bernal Avenue Check the Kottinger Creek web page (http://www.alamedacreek.org/Join%20-%20Volunteer/Kottinger%20Creek/Kottinger%20Creek.htm ) to confirm the date as City Council Agendas frequently change. Agendas are also published in the "Pleasanton Weekly" on the Friday prior to each City Council Meeting.
The Alameda Creek Alliance is a non-profit community organization. Please support our efforts by becoming a member. If you would like to be removed form this list, please notify me by return e-mail.
