To the Alameda Creek Alliance e-mail list:
1) Thank you to those of you who attended last night’s meeting for
the San Francisco water supply projects in
Fremont.
The S.F. Planning Department and the SFPUC got the message loud and
clear that Bay Area residents want adequate flows in rivers and creeks
affected by SF’s water system and that the SFPUC should focus on water
conservation and recycling to meet future water demand rather than
withdrawing more water from the Tuolumne River, Alameda Creek, or the
Delta.
Check out the article on the hearing in today’s Oakland
Tribune:

Residents: Keep
water in river
Plan to retrofit Hetch Hetchy system draws fire
for including upgrades to meet demands
You can also read this article and other articles about Alameda
Creek in the ACA on-line media archive: http://www.alamedacreek.org/Media_Articles/Media%20articles.htm
The ACA’s scoping comments on the SFPUC water supply plan are
posted on the web site at: http://www.alamedacreek.org/Alerts/ACA%20scoping%20comments%2010-05.pdf
The SFPUC will hold scoping hearings and take public comments on
the Calaveras Dam Replacement Project and the Niles/Sunol Dam Removal
Project in November.
2) Thank you new and renewing
members!
Many thanks to our new and renewing members for your donations
supporting the work of the Alameda Creek Alliance. The ACA now has over
700 members! We are a growing voice for protection and restoration of
wildlife habitat in the watershed. I apologize to those of you who may
have been solicited twice this year – from now on we will send one annual
membership appeal each fall.
If you did not receive a membership request in the mail and would
like to join the ACA, go to:
http://www.alamedacreek.org/Join%20-%20Volunteer/Join%20-%20Volunteer.htm.
3) Fundraising volunteers needed
Volunteers are needed to help organize two fundraising events for
the Alameda Creek Alliance next year:
We are going to revive the Alameda Creek Spawning Run, a 10K
race and 5K fun run/walk along lower Alameda Creek next May. Please
contact me if you can help organize or publicize this benefit
run.
We are looking for a fundraiser event (such as an auction, wine
tasting, or concert) and venue for spring or summer of 2006. Please
contact me if you have ideas or can help organize a fundraiser event for
the ACA.
If you would like to be removed from this list, please notify me by
return e-mail.
